Privacy

Your photos and their context stay on your device. Here is also how the website handles the information you share with it.

Core principle

KontexVoX stores your photos and descriptions on your device. The app sends neither your photos, nor your audio, nor your descriptions to our servers. No ad tracking, no third-party analytics.

What about iCloud?

If you use iCloud Photos sync, your enriched photos sync like any other photo. That's normal iOS behavior. But us, the KontexVoX app, we send nothing. The distinction matters: iCloud is Apple, not us. We don't control it, and enabling it is your choice.

Local transcription

Transcription is performed by iOS's native speech recognition, locally on your phone. No audio is sent to a third-party server. It may produce a few small imperfections, but that's the price of privacy. And it improves with every iOS update.

We could have used a cloud transcription like OpenAI's Whisper, more accurate, but it would have required tokens and we couldn't have guaranteed that your data stays your data. We chose local.

We ran the test for you

We compared 100% local transcription (airplane mode, no network) and online, on the same sentences. Result: equivalent quality — local even punctuates better more often than not.

A home test in French, in full transparency: two sentences dictated identically — one realistic, one deliberately tricky. Not a benchmark, just what we observed.

Realistic sentence (inventory use)

Online

« …ranger dans le bureau, …deux verres sans pieds… » — the word "vert" (green) is dropped, punctuation is weak.

Local (airplane mode)

« …ranger dans le bureau vert… À côté, deux vers 100 pieds… » — keeps "vert" (green), punctuates better.

Tricky sentence (homophones, jargon, numbers)

Codes, HEIC format, numbers and units (1.2 MB, ISO 800, f/1.6) and jargon ("durite"): correct in both modes. Punctuation and sentence splitting: better on local. Homophones (ver / verre / vert / vers, comte / conte / compte) fail identically in both modes — that's a limit of Apple's engine, not of local mode.

Bottom line: neck and neck. Local is at least as good, and cleaner on punctuation.

Conclusion: choosing 100% local costs nothing in accuracy. So we chose it, all the time. Your data stays with you.

EXIF metadata

The transcription of your voice is written into each photo's EXIF metadata, as text. No audio file attached. These metadata travel with the photo file. If you share the photo via AirDrop or the Files app, the metadata is preserved. If you share via WhatsApp or Telegram in image mode, the metadata may be stripped by the third-party app.

Location

KontexVoX keeps the iPhone's native GPS coordinates when they are present in the original photo. The app never adds a position. If location was disabled when the photo was taken, the enriched copy has no GPS coordinates either.

Data deletion

The context created in the app lives in your photos. Deleting a photo deletes that context. We keep no copy of it on our servers. Account and subscription data, and messages sent through the website, are described separately below.

Account and subscription

Creating an account in the app is optional: it only serves to raise your daily quota. In that case, your email address is stored with our authentication provider (Supabase), and you can request its deletion at any time.

If you go Premium, the purchase is handled by the App Store and our subscription provider (RevenueCat) processes your purchase status. Neither receives your photos, your audio, or your descriptions. No data is used for ad tracking.

The kontexvox.com website

This section covers kontexvox.com and its forms. The data controller is Matthieu Callies (KontexVoX), who can be contacted at support@kontexvox.com.

Cookies and browsing

This website sets no cookies and uses no audience measurement or tracking tools. That is why there is no cookie banner. It also uses no local storage in your browser. Fonts and the resources needed to display the pages are hosted with the website.

Hosting and security

Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the website and routes form submissions. The host may process technical logs, including IP addresses and request information, to operate and secure the service. This processing is based on our legitimate interest in keeping the website secure (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR).

Quote requests

The form collects your organization, contact name and email address, along with the number of seats needed and your message if you provide them. This information is used only to respond to your quote request and handle the necessary correspondence. The legal basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract (Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR). Fields marked with an asterisk are necessary to handle your request.

Requests and our correspondence are kept for no longer than 3 years after our last contact.

Android list

The form collects your email address and your choice about joining Android testing. Your email is used only to notify you of the Android release and, if you checked the box, to invite you to take part in testing. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR), given by submitting the “Notify me” form. Taking part in testing remains optional.

This information is kept until 6 months after the Android release, or until you withdraw your consent or request its deletion, whichever comes first. You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing support@kontexvox.com, without affecting processing already carried out.

Recipient and service providers

Matthieu Callies is the sole recipient of requests and registrations within KontexVoX. Forms also transmit their language so we can respond appropriately. A honeypot field and a minimum completion time help limit spam, without cookies or a third-party service in your browser.

Cloudflare routes submissions and Brevo emails their contents to KontexVoX. The sending function creates no submission database and does not log submission content. Messages are retained in the support@kontexvox.com mailbox, which uses Google Workspace, for the periods stated above.

Brevo hosts its databases within the European Union. Transactional logs are configured to be deleted after one month; retention of content previews for new emails is disabled. These providers operate the service under their data processing agreements.

Transfers outside the European Union

Cloudflare may process data outside the European Union. These transfers are covered by the Data Privacy Framework for applicable transfers to the United States and, where relevant, by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses included in its data processing agreement.

Google Workspace may also process messages outside the European Union. Its data processing agreement sets out the safeguards that apply to these transfers, including standard contractual clauses where required.

Your rights

Subject to the conditions set out in the GDPR, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction of processing and data portability. You can also withdraw your consent for the Android list at any time. To exercise these rights, email support@kontexvox.com. We respond within one month.

You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority.
